Congratulations to two Bury College Apprenticeships and Training employers who won big at the Made in Bury Business Awards 2018.
The annual awards ceremony, which is in association with thebestofbury, Bury Council and Tower FM, recognised and rewarded local businesses and celebrated outstanding achievements. The black tie event showcased 20 business categories covering all sectors and the well deserving entries were judged by a high-profile panel including some of the borough’s leading business professionals.
Delighted to claim the highly prestigious Food and Drink award was one of Lancashire’s finest restaurants, The Fisherman’s Retreat. Recognised for serving locally sourced produce and being environmentally friendly, the multi award-winning establishment was really proud of their achievement.
The Fisherman’s Retreat currently employs two Bury College Catering and Hospitality apprentices and owner and director James Magnell believes it is important to invest in apprentices.
James commented, “It is great to see young people grow during their apprenticeship and to know that you were there at the start of their careers and helped them along the way. It was a great feeling to win our Made in Bury Business Award and to be recongised for what we work so hard to achieve.”
Proud recipient of the Community Impact award was the charming pub restaurant, The Victoria Walshaw. From supporting local football teams to hosting charity events, the family-friendly eatery is a favourite of the village and plays a huge part within the local community.
Keen to provide their staff with the chance to upskill, owners Lisa and Richard Moore were delighted to offer existing staff the opportunity to gain qualifications within the Hospitality industry through a Bury College apprenticeship.
Lisa said, “We were absolutely gobsmacked to win our award and totally over the moon! It was great to have our apprentices celebrating with us there on the night as we hope that one day they will be planning and hosting their own charity events.”
