A general practitioners who provide health care and advice to the people of Bury, have been giving opportunities to young people through Bury College apprenticeship programmes.
Minden Family Practice have been working with Bury College to offer apprenticeship opportunities to young people for many years. The practice strongly believes in offering individuals training opportunities to help with career progression within the company.
One apprentice to have completed the Business Administration Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeship is 23 year old Kashia Ahmed. The former The Elton High School pupil completed her apprenticeship in 2013 and undertook a range of administration roles. These included scanning documents and dealing with medical records. In 2013, Kashia was appointed as a receptionist and is now responsible for issuing prescriptions and having patient contact.
Kashia said about her apprenticeship, “I love working at Minden Family Practice, all the people of patients are great and I feel appreciated working here. My apprenticeship ran really smoothly, I had regular contact with my assessor and I felt well supported.”
One of Minden’s newest apprentice’s is Gemma Earnshaw who has undertaken her Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship. 21 year old Gemma discovered this apprenticeship through the Employment Gateway, a partnership between Bury College and key agencies in Bury which supports individuals into employment through an apprenticeship.
Gemma, who is a qualified Beauty Therapist, was looking for a career change and wanted to gain some additional qualifications and believes an apprenticeship was the best options for her. Gemma said, “I am really enjoying my apprenticeship and working as a receptionist where I am responsible for dealing with patients and looking after doctors notes. The Employment Gateway were brilliant, they looked through my CV with me and helped with interview questions so I felt really well prepared.”
